13) Situation October-November 2003;
Related to swallowing difficulties, we took immediately after the treatment by Vogl contact the Radboud Hospital. Initially asking for an infusion solution or other emergency (nasogastric tube). It ran into a lot of resistance. The doctors did or prevent the deterioration was due to the intervention by pro Vogl. Which is certainly not the case. Furthermore, it appeared that Peter was treated in a German hospital, he may also mean that the bearer of MRSA bacteria. We are told that all hospitals in principle foreign suspect; anyone who has been included in a German hospital So, we need a few days in quarantine!
Because there is an emergency solution in Cologne could be arranged (drip and drinking food) and swallowing as soon improved, we decided to contact with the Radboud absolutely necessary to limit. The ENT doctor at the Radboud endoscopic examination was in September, but saw nothing new in the throat and esophagus. Further appointment with the oncologist found a place with a view to the desired MRSA research (since condition for further treatment) and consultation on the MTX-chemo that she had previously suggested. Peter was - as expected - the bacteria do not carry with them.
Peter's situation was not improving. The swallow went harder. Peter was also very short of breath and he suffered from a stiff neck and shoulders. When we were on October 8 before the scan was in Frankfurt, was the good news that the new tumor was completely gone right and left little in the tumor size had increased. The bad news was that in the lungs much moisture on them and that set up multiple lymph Vogl said. Vogl advised us to urgently contact the hospital in the Netherlands for treatment of the lungs. Also he advised to by the Radboud MTX chemotherapy offered to do. With Vogl we have an audit appointment for January 2004.
The day after the consultation with Peter Vogl has directly contacted the oncologist from the Radboud Hospital. He was the day after the weekend go for an appointment with the oncologist, who immediately turned on the pulmonologist. The very next day he was admitted for drainage of the lungs. The recording took longer than expected, from October 13 to October 24. Hetvocht is removed and the pleural stuck together.
On October 30, the MTX chemotherapy started. Once a week less than a quarter of the infusion. Luckily he has very little side effects. However, he swallowed drugs that impair ability to drive, so he is not as self as before.
Still, he is short of breath and still he can not swallow. The causes being investigated. We hope that both problems are caused by a cause (a new tumor in the mediastinum), because in that case, a chemo-embolization by Vogl perhaps another solution. It will be the relationship with the oncologist under considerable pressure. That is unfortunate, because we notice now that she really does her best for Peter. But that commitment is, we think, is bound by borders ..
To further weight to counter, Peter wanted to place a nasogastric tube. There have been two attempts to do: first by a physician, this morning (November 11, 2003) by a gastrointestinal doctor. Unfortunately both failed. Now Peter with a sore throat just drink sips of water .. Wednesday, November 12, 2003 is another CT scan scheduled for the Radboud Hospital. Thursday chemo number 3. So hard times, full of discomfort, and medical consumption (especially Lucia) anxiety.
Yet we try to keep up courage. Yesterday we went to Dr. Klatte been alive again for blood tests and advice. The results of these tests were not against, the white blood cells were quite active. Perhaps thanks to the AF-factor and thymic injections prescribed Gorter and Peter still loyal spray every two days. Klatte has a prescribed number of liquid nourishment. Agreement is that we first regard the MTX or maybe do something. Simultaneously orient us to the question whether chemo-embolization can provide a solution to the current acute problems and that the oncologist at the Radboud has been seduced to a partnership relationship with Vogl. Furthermore, we agreed that we orient the PDT treatment of Dr Woeppel. Dr. Klatte wants us to support this in contact with him.
Overall a good time to Vogl's words to quote: "Der Kampf geht weiter!"
