5) Second and third opinion in other hospitals

Meanwhile, after about 3 months I wanted a second opinion and I went with my new love (finally) to the Anthony van Leeuwenhoek Hospital in Amsterdam.
They said: `Well, the scan images are clearly 'sclerotic metastases are seen. (That's great, that it may be petrified as it were, so kill the chemo). Also showed a large dark 'thing' about 5 cm. That would be a hole with fluid (?) According to my oncologist at the VU. In any case, it was said that this treatment VU: (Portocath with chemotherapy) was very successful. I had to go through this. That in the Anthony van Leeuwenhoek Hospital this effect with their treatment achieved, "because" they said, "We give a total chemo series spa, so we should have hair to fall out so. And we can best effect you can with this porta-cath treatment does not reach, we think ".

So I returned to the VU, and also the pictures of the scan and the accompanying letters from the radiologist over time, again returned to the secretary of
my treating oncologist.
Meanwhile I had an appointment for a further opinion in the LUMC (Leiden University Teaching Hospital), with Dr. V. vd and H. They do a treatment, the total decoupling of the liver from the circulation means. Then the liver approximately one hour long with chemo flushed and operation is very heavy, takes a long time and you're doing to restore. H. and said: "You do not live longer than two years, we must also see whether you qualify for this treatment."
After 3 weeks I got the results: `You are eligible. Then I had already decided that I did not. Because even 2% of patients, said Dr. H. will die in this operation. Incidentally, I heard now one year later, that a gentleman four years ago that had surgery and he is still alive and well. So you see. What you have to choose ..... Incidentally, the doctor said again again in Leiden: "What Your VU treatment you do, be seen on the scan, turn very well, go through this ...."

So I did. Then got my gall bladder through the chemo in February 2001 ignited. Which was also removed and this classic, which was again a deep cut on my "pretty" tight body.

After recovery from this operation, I went to do chemotherapy. After every 5 cycles 'earn' (so I feel) a scan and it was good every time: smaller metastases and subsequent calcification. Only it was slow and slower .....
