7. Bert is deceased on April 1, 2002
Marije, his wife, Bert, I got last night (dated April 10, 2002) an e-mail on April 1 that Bill is deceased to his lung cancer. How things have happened so fast I do not know. On March 9 Marije mailed me (the week before I had spoken by telephone Bert and he was full of optimism and happy when) that scans had shown no cancer was just sat by the effects / side effects of chemotherapy (bone loss) a moved up to spinal pain caused because there were pinched nerves. According to Bert Marije was the week of March 12 it will be operated in a clinic in Germany. This is an excerpt from that e-mail dated March 9, 2002:
Bert operation for Monday in Hanover on his back. It appears from many studies that there is a pinched nerve is hit because his spine is pressed together. This is again, probably because some of the vertebrae through the porous cancer metastasis and we started late with the bones tonics to the bone in the vertebrae then have opvulllen. There is now a disc between the vertebrae removed, the one pressing against the nerve. We hope that after more than 11 weeks pain, a harrowing experience, this operation is ended and he can come back through life pain free. Results of all scans was again no visible cancer is active, it was still good news. Now look at this' nevenakkevietje "as Bert calls it approaches.
The surgery takes about two hours and he must be at least 10 days in the hospital. Personally I think there may be a little more.
Then I heard nothing until last night that sad message. Marije I hope our next few weeks the last part of the story to tell so we get more clarity how despite all the optimistic messages might be going wrong.
