Uterine and cervical cancer

Uterine cancer and cervical cancer are often lumped together, suggesting that the cancers were dezelde. But that is a misconception. The origin, symptoms and treatments of uterine cancer are different than for cervical cancer. The chances of survival of uterine cancer are also much higher than for cervical cancer.

Cervical cancer usually arises from cells in the mucous membrane on the border of cervix and uterus. Usually caused by a prolonged infection with HPV - Human Papilloma Virus.

Uterine cancer usually develops in the inner lining layer of the uterus. Therefore, uterine cancer, also called endometrial cancer.
Some women (5% to 10%) cervical cancer occurs in the muscle wall of the uterus. This is a uterussarcoom (uterus = womb) called.
