What is the difference between Hodgkin's disease and non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma?
Hodgkin's disease is one form of lymphoma, while a non-Hodgkin lymphoma a single word of all kinds is lymphoma.
Lymph is a colorless to yellowish clear liquid, which is a vascular vasculature as a closed system. Lymph runs from capillaries, which begin near the capillaries of the bloodstream and gets to lymfbanen and tubes in the venous part of the blood. In the lymph are the wastes from the body. Before the lymph into the blood, it always passes at least one lymph node, the germs like bacteria and viruses from the lymph filters. Nodes are mainly in the neck, armpits, along the trachea, the lungs, intestines and behind the abdominal cavity, pelvic region and in the groin.
Hodgkin's disease always arises in a lymph node, a non-Hodgkin lymphoma in 2 / 3 of people in lymph nodes and 1 / 3 in lymphatic tissues.
Except waste found in the lymph also certain white blood cells called lymphocytes. Lymphocytes are created in the bone marrow, spleen and lymph nodes and lymph circulation in the whole body around it. They play an important role in the pathogen and the production of antibodies. They also play a key role in the development of lymphoma. Lymphocytes during their transport through the body, bacteria or viruses encounter, develop either into plasma cells, large quantities of antibodies can produce either to centrocyten that an immunological memory building and one in contact with the same bacteria or virus in action.
A non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma is a malignant derailment of a lymphocyte in this development. This is often in the spleen and for a specific form of the disease Waldenström said. A derailment of malignant plasma cells is called a multiple myeloma, also known as Kahler's disease , and set occurs in the bone marrow.
To the extent to which the cancer has spread, to indicate the human body is divided into two parts: below and above the diaphragm.
In stage I disease is confined to a lymfkliergebied or an organ.
In stage II disease demonstrated in two lymfkliergebieden or organs on the same side of the diaphragm.
In stage III disease in both halves of the diaphragm demonstrated in glandular areas and sometimes in the spleen or other organs.
In stage IV, the disease has spread to other organs such as lung, liver, bone marrow or skin.
In addition, at every stage the letter A or B added.
-A = no general illness,
B = symptoms (fever, weight loss, night sweats) which gave rise to consult a doctor. Strong fatigue, itching and pain all over the body when drinking alcohol fit with the disease, but are not considered as B symptoms.
Hodgkin's disease is a relatively rare cancer with about 400 new cases per year (about 250 mannen/150 women). It is striking that many young people between 15 and 29 years with the disease. The average ten years survival is over 70% in stage I or II even about 90%
Non-Hodgkinlymfomen are about 5 times more for, divided equally between men and women. Two thirds of new patients over 60 years. The chance for cure in stages I and II is approximately 90%. Stage III and IV about 20%. However, more than half of them longer than 7 to 10 years.
