Mart survives with lots of action and support of his daughters for years have metastatic cancer

dated 24/09/2003: Monique and thanks to Linda and Mart to be as open dare talk about their experiences.

September 2002 e-mail I get approached by Monique, a young woman for her father, diagnosed with incurable metastatic cancer , and another one wants to know if there are still possibilities for life extension or possibly cure. Her mother was one month earlier, August 12, 2002, deceased and her sister Monique and Linda are very scared now quickly losing their father. Mart has been suffering since the first diagnosis of colon cancer on November 25, 2001. Through our contacts in the Erasmus Medical Center Rotterdam, Monique and Linda and Mart in touch and get treatment at Dr. IJzermans and later Dr. De Wild. Mart can still be operated, and at first glance it successful. Unfortunately they get media in August 2003 that the message again metastases were detected in the liver. The intestines also seem clean. Next week will consider whether Mart is eligible for RFA treatment of his liver tumors.

August 13, 2003 I am in the morning at home with Monique at the table in the garden along with Mart, Linda, and son and daughter Monique, her husband later there's concubines. They want the story to tell of their search on the site. Based on a diary kept by Linda, with my personal comments in between, I will tell the story / add.

08/13/2003: When I ring the bell will be opened by Monique, a young woman, just become a mother again, giving a hand-Mart and I see a remarkably handsome man of middle age. If you did not know you would not say that this is a cancer patient. Mart also said that he recovered fairly quickly from the surgery and he feels very good. Monique and Linda come to me as spontaneous girls who are not open their mouth fell. This is evident from the story they tell, especially since Monique is everywhere, and consecutive calls and writes directly to the doctors when something takes too long enjoying herself. The first part of this story is a copy of a diary that Linda has held:

Editors note: why is not here then choose to remove metastases in the liver by RFA technique ? A radiologist from Rotterdam, please note that told me this spring in Rotterdam RFA is applied after joining Dr. Solbiati been. If you know the storyby mrs. N you will read several times that RFA can be repeated as harmless as the tumors are not too great and here refers to largest diameter 1.5 cm., Which is very small, the RFA closed skin very easily applied. Moreover, I read further that this chemotherapy - 5FU leucovorin - is applied with chemotherapy for liver tumors - except Xeloda - no proven effect on liver tumors / metastases.

11.30 would get chemo, go phoned to ask if they want Mart just check if he still is.

Is made:
Temperature record 37.1 degrees
Blood Collection

Phoned Dr. Keuning by nurse, recommends a chemo once to skip. We get to take prescription drugs for nausea, pills?. Again called "pills do not help when you immediately vomits." Inserted to 14.15 interview with Dr. Keuning, suppositories have the same purpose. We get "accidentally" the results of the CT scan done on August 13, positive response to chemotherapy, the seven meta-states do not grow, one no longer visible. Everything is stable. We explain various treatments that Monique has found on the Internet, Dr.. Keuning respond positively and will find out along with other oncologists on September 17, we get here Sept. 26 to hear more about. Mart is just sick that day, snaps around 22.00 hours. Slept badly or high light abdominal discomfort. Then it's normal life again continued.

September 12, 2002:
Consultation between Monique and Linda, listing all therapies that have so far been found through -www.kanker actueel.nl , newspapers and Kees Braam.

Editorial Note: When Monique mailed me, I tried it with information from which a metastatic cancer is all on complementary and alternative therapies available at this time. We also have good contacts with some oncologists in different hospitals and by a letter and phone calls from both sides has managed to get an appointment in Rotterdam for Mart to see if a new operation is still a possibility could belong. In addition, both Linda and Monique as OPS member Join our mail (approx. 70 members) and even there they have a lot to me. The exchange of current news but also the famous shot in the arm, how it to tackle a disappointment not give up but to sit in peace to pick up on it anyway so I'm personally big admiration seen how both Monique and Linda, not to mention the other members of the mail group supported each other, etc.

September 20, 2002:
Mart is the secretary of Dr.. Keuning called to come, they want what appointments he will be fully vetted to make sure that if there were no metastases are present.

September 22, 2002:

October 17, 2002:

October 18, 2002:
9.30 MRI scan in Rotterdam after a delay because the scan was broken, it is delayed one hour, 10.30 Mart comes under the scanner.

October 28, 2002:
Iron Man has called us for an appointment on RFA

November 4, 2002:
11.45 meeting with Dr. iron man on the Poli General Surgery. He gives us explain to us what he can do and what the various procedures can do for us.

Option 1: RFA, which will not be enough ... and result is minimal.

Option 2: A portion of the liver collection (Section 5 of the 8) and then the remaining part RFA

Option 3: Liver Perfusion (chemobad) and the places he sees RFA (the latter is not possible, he later returned)

Option 3 is indicated as the best option, he suggests that he again in the discussion with all other liver specialists throwing this Friday, and then call us with the final proposal. He "forgets" to call around 17.00 hours call Monique itself, here it is actually option 3 below. He suggests that his secretary Monday, 11/11 calling for an appointment with us, to have an interview with the surgeon who will perform the liver perfusion, Dr.. The Wild. Us some things to explain the pros and cons.

November 12, 2002:

The operation is put.
CEA = 4.8
LC = 9.2
Hart movie made, and blood type is determined by blood injection.
Mart gets told in writing the date on which operation takes place. (Estimated somewhere around January) also has an appointment for December 27 for a chat with the "anesthesia doctor".

December 27, 2002:
Doctor anesthesia.

January 13, 2003:
Mart recording DDH Rotterdam 11:00, Monique and Linda are Monday / Wednesday to the family remained there.

January 14, 2003:
OPERATION 08.00 hours, finally started at 09.00 hours, difficulty in lowering high blood pressure (due to internal stress), operation lasted until 16.00, at 17.00 hours in ICU. There is also a clip of his sealed shot veins, leakage has been 6% max (10% max). This gives them the perfusion unfortunately have to stop sooner.

Mart has 10 days in hospital and was quite restored. Does have two bags of blood needed it, because the high dose chemotherapy has undermined his bone marrow. There was so little blood to create.

After one week he was home but unfortunately Mart was bald, while a local chemotherapy was flush. Perhaps more leaks as expected? Good thing it is growing again. He also suffered from stabbing around his liver. Probable that a subsequent galontsteking been.

February 11, 2003:
Mart to check with Dr. Keunig 11.30 in MMC

February 24, 2003:

April 29, 2003:
Mart CT 14.40 hours in Rotterdam

May 8, 2003:
Control + Results CT 10.30 + rash blood samples 03/04/10
Had very good news, Dr.. The Wild was very pleased, liver enzymes were coming down (from 600 to 200, normal = 90), CEA 2.7.
Description of situation: "The spread is now looked like blisters."
Come back about 3 months!

Editorial Note:

Until the end of August 2003 Mart is doing well. He is eating normally again, never Mart has chosen a special diet, but eat just as he always did, and he tells me yet another time how good he feels. The day after I was visiting with them should they return to Rotterdam for the results of the scan of July 21 and he does not expect a bad result will come. Unfortunately just fine. Monique mailed me the next day that there is again found in the liver spots. My first reaction was, go to RFA in order to remove these spots, because of the scan revealed that the intestines were still clinically clean. But until today there is no treatment proposal. Between now and rashes - dated September 24, 2003 - are now already more than five weeks. Mi, but I am not a doctor or medical professional so my opinion is just not yet: mi it much time is lost. Like Rotterdam and claims that they have also asked for on our site a way that they signed RFA also perform than skin Mart seems certainly to be eligible. He is a clinical cancer free and there are only a few small liver metastases found. It could be that they are in the wrong place and RFA is no longer possible, but would still be a quick-oriented research and medical advice Mart assurance. Now he lives for weeks of stress about what will happen. Monique and Linda have promised to keep us informed so will undoubtedly be continued. And hopefully with a success story because Mart is already more than a year later than predicted. In this sense, the search and determination of Linda and Monique their father at least one more extra time than average survival.

July 21, 2003:
Mart CT + liver blood tests in Rotterdam 10:00

August 14, 2003:
Appointment to get results of liver scan and blood tests 10.30
Linda and Monique back to Rotterdam.
Result is disappointing, for the operation were 8 spots that were slain by the surgery, so surgery has definitely done its job, but there are 4 new metastases seen on CT scan. These are 4mm wide. His CEA has risen from 2.7 to 4.9. About six weeks back for blood tests and CT scan, then they see how the tumors have developed. There is talk if possible to perform RFA.

September 25, 2003:
Mart CT liver blood tests + 10.00 in Rotterdam. Continuation see updated March 52005.
