The second relapse in April 2005
The chapter describes how rehabilitation and home rehabilitation was difficult after stem cell transplant. Just as a rising in my welfare was to observe the terrible news that we got from a bone marrow biopsy was again concluded that there was a recurrence. This was very bad news because we knew that the leukemia was very persistent (the doctors confirmed this) and the probability of recovery was smaller. They then decided again to administer chemotherapy (investigations indicated that my body could tolerate much more chemo). After this treatment would mature immune cells, "My stem cell donor are administered in the hope that those still in my present would destroy leukemia cells. During this period we had to again alert to graft-versus-host phenomena. Although various symptoms occurred could not be established conclusively the existence of graft-versus-host. The doctors expressed the fear that the immune cells did not succeed in their mission. Their fears were unfortunately true, from a bone marrow biopsy showed that the number of blasts (immature white blood cells) had increased to 73% (the first time that leukemia was found was 83% and 35% in first relapse). Again, this was a huge slap in our face because we also were informed that the doctors saw little more perspective. There is decided once using drugs to reduce the number of blasts and then again from my donor immune cells to be administered. We are awaiting the results of this approach. See the news section, "Current Status".
