Experience Story cancer: Kees
When I arrive driving in the neighborhood where I get Kees live a kind of deja vu. The apartment building where Kees lives with his wife Ma resembles the apartment building where I was twenty years ago with great pleasure I lived in Apeldoorn. Be internal. The layout is exactly the same. Small but spacious enough for two people and Kees and Ma cozy and inviting furnishings. Was rather different with me being single at the time, but never mind. But this confirms for me once again that the ordinary Dutch citizen with an average income and I mean that is not demeaning or judgmental, but not only very rich people cured of cancer, as is sometimes suggested. Because that Kees had told me over the phone. He was 13 years ago, faced with a diagnosis of cancer at his peritoneum. The doctors had him after the chemotherapy is not kicked, sent home with the message that nothing could be done, but Kees did not throw in the towel to sit down and was under the guidance of the Moerman diet started and got his Moerman Doctor additional vitamins and other natural antioxidants. And now, in August 2001, he sits before me. Healthy radiant appearance and a wonderful storyteller.
His story was recorded by me, but almost a monologue by Kees:
"In the spring of 1988, I sometimes suffer from pain waves. This lasted for some ten minutes and ebbed over again. At first I thought the doctor treating kidney stones, but the pictures were nothing. The doctor then asked me once I immediately get another attack so they could make an echo. But you work or are somewhere else and attacks're not lasted so long that I echo or time for such a picture would be. In any case at some point have a sonogram. And the echo showed that in my abdomen, or rather the peritoneum one or more cysts were. You do not directly to the worst, and actually I have a bit relieved that something was found, but was soon relieved replaced by fear. A biopsy showed namely that the cyst evil was. That means cancer. Immediately I was referred to the regional hospital at the Daniel den Hoed, and there appeared to to metastasis of adenocarcinoma. was probably the primary tumor in the colon / bowel, but that was on the photos to prove.
It was really amazing because I had once smoked a bit, but soon meegestopt, sports a lot and we still ate pretty healthy. Now I worked at a machine near a former garbage dump, and I knew that in that neighborhood is more notable cases of cancer were. So first you blame them. Partly on my initiative is a study carried out, but that study found no correlation between the dump and cancer cases. I am glad that the management has cooperated and responded to our request for an investigation, although obviously not from me my cancer afhielp. But it remains a question not linger forever.
The treatment I received at the Daniel den Hoed a hard chemotherapy consisted of 4 x 5 days with a break of three weeks. The so-called cure bep (bleomicine and cysplatin), this treatment is also given for testicular cancer. After the third course of chemotherapy, I had so much fatigue and other side effects, such as the platelets were so low that the fourth course of a few weeks after they were given. End-September was all behind us, it was very hard and been so turned out to be useless again. The scan showed that the chemo had failed, and the tumor was as big if not bigger, the doctor told me. When I asked what else could happen then the answer was clear: NOTHING. And it was not easy to accept, I must say.
We went together for a week to Terschelling gone, but I just came forward with the bike and a flight of stairs was a tough job. The doctors would then be a new investigation and wanted through a bronchoscopy and lung biopsy to see if I might have lung cancer or other metastases. Normally, a lung biopsy done on the X-ray department, but this doctor did just that puncturing his surgery, though that is not allowed. Now that I have known. The man poked through my lung and I had nowhere to go anymore. I could not talk and tried every effort to indicate that I threatened to choke. First understand that no doctor and tried to calm me down, but I was mad with fear and pain, and he finally understood that something went wrong. Like crazy to the X-ray department and was there just in time to intervene through a drain insert. It took me a stay of four days inhospital. And worse, I was having a lung fibrosis, a side effect of the chemo treatments, which is an inflammation of the pleural sacs and if uncontrolled inflammation can be brought death to it. Fortunately I have got over it. And from my cancer, I come down, because otherwise I would of course not been.
Now living in the time that my cancer was found and Dr. Moerman has lived close by and many people found him a very nice and knowledgeable doctor, and you surely heard many stories of people who had cancer, yet with this approach had helped . Also because I myself believed in this approach I have the time I have with the chemo had started contacted Dr. Valstar (he worked then in Utrecht) and he advised me to supplement the Moerman diet and additional nutritional supplements to use, However, after that I'm starting the chemo. After establishing the pulmonary fibrosis Valstar his opinions changed so that even those opposed. I was very strict. I ate very carefully according to the rules and took the vitamins, etc. very nicely in time. And you will believe it or not but after that week Terschelling, say a month later I was refurbishing. I recovered well from that pulmonary fibrosis, a lung volume was still about 80%, but better than nothing and so in February 1989, I even returned to work. And what was quite special: a scan in early 1989 revealed that the tumor was encapsulated. When I asked how it was explained to the doctor told me that the chemo is doing its work two years after treatment is stopped. (Editors note: this is nonsense klinklare, chemotherapy works by more than one month according to the doctors that I was asked). But the beauty was that I always feel better and the next scan six months later, everything still the same and probably had dried. The doctor then suggested to still yet to do an operation to remove the remaining tissue, but personally I saw at that time not in use, particularly given the results of the Moerman diet.
From 1989 to 1999, I had no problems. Of course you will never forget that you've had cancer, but I must say that I really can not think of it every day. I can enjoy everyday life. Yet it was surprised by Easter 1999 in the same problems occurred as in 1988. Now I began to have a distended abdomen and the pressure was often painful. An ultrasound revealed a cyst that was with a lot of moisture in it. Through a puncture that moisture was removed, and luckily it was not cancer. According to the doctor were the chemo from ten years ago, adhesions occur and therefore an obstruction of lymphatic vessels. The doctor wanted me to operate. Now I doubt there long, but I think I've still suffers from it let me remove. The operation was not as dramatic as ten years ago, was proposed. One day I went to the hospital. I was prepared for surgery, shaved, washed, etc. and when I lay on the stretcher to the operating table the doctor came to tell me that the surgery was postponed. There was an emergency intervened and I was not so urgent so I was again sent home. On the one hand bags, because you obviously you have to, but afterwards I am glad that I did not have surgery. For until this day, no surgery or anything done to me. And I still feel sore at times, but have much less problems. It is quite remarkable that one of the doctors later said that he thinks I had cancer or not or twelve years ago that my approach was still good. Well I am convinced that the approach of Valstar was the right one, because the medical reports do speak of all cancers and this would be weird and a very serious mistake if all the various studies are wrong would have been. But for me it was important that I could work just fine weather. I am a few years ago with the early retirement is now gone and do volunteer work at a campsite in the NIVON and enjoy my children, grandchild and now there along with Ma, we have a wonderful life.
And as an interviewer, I can only confirm that two people sitting opposite me, so hear are full of life. Next week, as I sit typing this piece, they are on vacation. Just nice strip out a week. Not to recover from the chemo, as in 1988, but because sometimes there is just so nice to be like hundreds of thousands of people each year.
