Story lung cancer experience: Hennie

dated December 30, 2001 Bianca wrote in our forum at the end of November 2001 that her mother is deceased. Three weeks before Bianca has a baby girl and her mother is still seen her grandchild. Unfortunately she has not long to enjoy.

The story of Hennie, Bianca's mother:

Maandag13 November 2000 my mother goes on sick leave, some flu, some headaches and a stiff neck. Thursday, November 16, my father with me and says it is not going well with my mother, according to him is the hair. She does "weird". So I am right look and questions. She feels strange, can not read. We do some exercises, they really can not read, but she can name characters. Well, what would be the problem? Tomorrow, a look at the GP. I immediately asked a colleague the next day that it can be if you suddenly can not read. She thought of a cerebral hemorrhage. I immediately called doctor, mom called and said I'm coming, we can immediately go to the doctor, you've probably had a hemorrhage. The doctor thought it was a strange story, he did not know what to think. He wanted to prescribe some pills after the weekend and had them come for blood tests. We wondered whether it was better not to go to a neurologist. Well, she never complains, I'll call or you can visit this afternoon, said the doctor. That was at 14.00, the neurologist conducted some tests, thought themselves a slight bleeding from a small spot in the brains. But because my mother was pretty, he saw no urgency in the matter and they had Thursday, November 23 for a scan.

My mother felt reasonably after the weekend, could read a bit, still had trouble concentrating. She added, so if I keep feeling I do not go Thursday.

No one cared really care, well slightly, a stroke is also quite something.

Thursday, November 23, one day like many others, everyone goes to work, Mom and Dad go to the hospital. At 13.00 hours we are all together again, and in sad. Our mom of 46 years who never has what appears to have a brain tumor! It is urgently admitted. Investigations follow, her whole body is viewed. Is it an isolated tumor or a metastasis? The same day pictures of the lungs, blood. A day later the breasts, abdomen. On the chest x-ray is a stain found on the bottom left. Following bronchoscopy, Sun is positive, there is TB occurred in her family, so it must be a scar. I'm getting increasingly worried. Come from books and the Internet to know much, and the cause of my mother seems suspiciously like lung cancer with metastases and those messages are not as nice.

After endless tension, the neurologist Wednesday, December 6 at us for a conversation. The results of the bronchoscopy is within ... ....

The ground beneath our feet ... mowed ...

My guess is correct ... ..

The neurologist suggests that palliative to proceed, because cure is not possible, he gives her 0%.

On her left lung is a tumor in the left hemisphere (too deep for surgery) and there is a slight difference found in the left kidney. We suggest that long to operate the place is small and they can be good. But that is not an option for the doctors, her life should be fun remain no major surgery. And everything also depends on the brain.

The neurologist has met with the pulmonologist and oncologist from Groningen by 5 radiation treatments and they are trying to stabilize the brain, reduce or maybe get away. If this, then by chemotherapy and radiation to the lung addressed.

We're going home ... ....

She comforts me and dad, and is happy to be home. Along the way she says she has had a good life, happy and not angry or rebellious. There are so many thing that happens, it has now happened to us. And she even mentions cases in which they find much worse. As my brothers friend, 19 years cerebral hemorrhage and died instantly. We drink coffee, the phone rings, nobody wants to pick it up, she gets up and able to speak to the people who call. Very coolly lays them all out. And the phone is ten times gone.

I tell her that I have read a book by Greg Anderson "50 things you absolutely must do if the doctor says you have cancer". She sucks the book, justif I did. It has become its manual! I can also advise everyone, in 1984 Greg was told he has one month to live, with lung metastases, he's alive!

After 5 days dismay we take our lives back. We go swimming every day, more usually will be 20 laps. The exercise bike is at home, they will cycle 10 km everyday. And every afternoon we go to the center, nice walking and shopping see the scared people when they see us. Yet they find it very healthy. So I feel she says, enjoy doing what I want, I feel holiday. People are dumb, we, every day. I search the internet and see it as in the books that cancer patients often use dietary supplements, we find out what everyone like swallows, make a schedule and get beta-carotene, vitamin C, E, selenium and zinc. That they swallowed daily. The medication the doctor Dextamethason (12 mg. Per day) and Pantozol.

Also I read the news about green tea, we get this too, so she drinks each day `s 5 mugs. We read lots of books, wonderful books about fighters and winners. I will be the books that provide the most claims   call:

·         50 things you absolutely must do if the doctor says you have cancer, Greg Anderson

·         The cancer victor, Greg Anderson

·         The 22 Laws of welfare, Greg Anderson

29 and 30 December and 2, 3 and 4 January Mom is irradiated. She's really looking to live, what is now done! I just think she says that it shrinks a bit each time, after January 4 will completely shrink. We share this hope.

In a week she must return to the neurologist, he will request a scan. So we hear the end of January whether irradiations have done all the work.

Last week, she is bald and wears it proudly now her wig. Because he is prettier than her real hair she says. You scared when you see that she is bald, she's very down to earth. The doctor said it would happen and there's nothing to do, if it helps!

And so we live right now, actually the same as before, but different. Intense, carefully to each other. She is now Dexamethasone to reduce the end of January will also drug-free. So far they notice anything, so no side effects. She lives as always, does all the work in our greathouse, cook fresh every night, stands at 6.00 am, going to bed at 23.00, is not tired, swimming, cycling, etc. Her positive thinking contributes greatly to the daily lives of us all. I get there by force, I feel very positive and supported by many. I myself am a Christian teacher in primary school, I am also very religious although I do not go to church. Parents of a girl in my class do on faith healing. They pray for my mother and have told me how I can do. I pray that the tumors will disappear. But last Sunday, my mother suffered from her knees, fluid accumulation. I prayed that this burden would disappear and it was gone Monday. Some will not believe this, my faith is strong and also help and consolation.

I'm also a lot of fluff on the internet and everything, so I came on this site. By Kees Braam I have a number of doctors Valstar received this week my mother wants to contact him. Who knows he can still contribute to certain supplements or otherwise.

So that my story is not over yet, but that many chapters will be added. If you are interested I will gladly tell my story. I also want everyone who reads this and also with cancer to do a lot of strength, faith and love wish!

dated July 5, 2001: From Bianca gave us the following email last week:

Fortunately it is still quite fine. She has just finished five chemotherapy, she comes back next Wednesday by the scan. After each cycle they cross through pictures how the lung tumor is, on this basis they know or sense to continue. Well, the course is well struck, after 4 cycles, the lung tumor has shrunk by more than half! You may assume that the rest of the body is reduced. She is now 12 weeks without dexamethasone, so the treatment has positive effects on the brain. But soon we hear exactly how and what.
She does have side effects, but not to the extent that it influenced her daily life, they will be gone, swimming, doing the housework, cooking, well actually they do everything by myself in less rapidly. And if they do not feel tired or she takes a bad day.
As I write this is all so pretty positive right?
Optimistic, but I'm afraid of what might come. I read her form only negative messages. Someone who has never read it or even what year was healed.

Bert succeed in remission or to recover from his small cell lung cancer, but whether he will finally cure is still unclear. However, there is much hope by the immunotherapy in Germany that Bert is now undergoing. Read his story and that of his wife Marije on this page .
