d.d. 3 juni 2003:R.F.A. bij longkankerpatiënten zorgt voor weinig bijwerkingen bij longkankerpatiënten en groot succes in studie bij 30 patiënten met niet-klein-cellige longkanker. Bij alle patiënten werden de tumoren succesvol weggehaald en binnen 6-12 maanden ontstond geen enkele terugkeer van de kanker. Ook longtumoren als uitzaaiingen uit darmkanker bij 36 patiënten werden succesvol met RFA weggehaald of kleiner gemaakt. MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. (Dow Jones)--Rita Medical Systems Inc. (RITA) said
results from a multicenter clinical study showed its radiofrequency, or RF,
ablation technology is effective in destroying lung tumors.
In a press release Monday, the company said one part of the study focused on
non-small-cell lung cancer showed that ablation was successful in all cases, and
complete ablation of treated lesions was confirmed by the absence of tumor
re-growth over a follow-up period of six months or more in 13 of 14 lesions in
14 patients. That part of the study included 30 patients, consisting of 21 men
and nine women ages 50-83 years old, and was led by a professor at the
University of Pisa.
The data in another part of the study, which included 33 patients with
colorectal metastases to the lung who had undergone prior therapies, showed that
94% of the tumors showed a stable or decreased size in follow-up examinations
after six and 12 months. Doctors at UCLA, St. George Hospital in Sydney and the
University of Essen in Essen, Germany, led that portion of the study.
Rita Medical noted its RF technology showed very low complications and
effective local tumor control with low morbidity.
